The running joke in our guild, since we are a casual raiding guild, that you must have a 1300 dps rating as soon as you hit 80 and no one must be on when you get your first Emblem of Heroism achievement or else you’ll get a /gkick (when a guildmaster kicks out a player of the guild). It was something that was brought up as a running joke after a player got kicked out for dumping on a guildie’s rather low DPS even though they had heroic epics. (They didn’t know they died at the halfway mark of the fight. The toon was a new member to the guild and the guild believes in unity. If you can’t be a team player then you will not fit in.)

And I must stress, it’s just a running joke though this one kid took is seriously and has been rather annoying lately.

Rogue, just recently turned 80. Claimed to have spent over 2k in gold (which prices on my server, I don’t disagree with him) on crafted epic gear so he could have the minimal 1300 DPS in order to do some of the lower heroics to get gear. Kudos to you! We’re glad you did your homework.

The problem? He thinks that everyone is higher in gear that him is going to drop everything to gear him up in this higher in difficulty instances to gear him up so we can bring him to Naxx.

Um, no?

I looked up my gear in the instances, looked up the difficulty level of the instances, had to learn another class (paladin [the hubby]) plus learn the needed stats for two completely different specs (Retribution and Holy).  We did the lower level instances over and over again until we had a good DPS and moved up in the instance levels. We studied the bosses in the instances to know what they did so we wouldn’t wipe.  We did all this hard work and even with our low instance only epics, the hubby and I were geared for Heroic Eye of Eternity. :0)

Why can’t other people do the same or at least HALF of the work we did? Why do these people think they are going to join a raid guild to run THEM through instances to get THEM geared when the whole POINT of a raid guild is bringing like players together to be in something where other players are looking to run instances and the end man content as well. It’s just to HELP you find people to raid so pugging a complete group is unlikely not to get YOU geared so you can come run Naxx with the better players.

I used to like to help people, and I still do, but I refuse to help people that will not first help themselves. I refuse to help players that will not do the homework that so many others have before them. Many think being in this guild is getting to my head and I am becoming stuck up and thinking I’m oh so elite from being on the top 5 DPS list when we run most guild raids.

Am I full of myself, or do I have a likely complaint?

Grats on the new domain :)

And I think it is very reasonable to want to see people help themselves. You get much more help from others when they see you are willing to do for yourself and not just looking for a handout.

Yes, I want to help people run things that will help them gear up… but I want them selecting do-able instances… not saying they want to heal Heroic Halls of Lightning when they can’t heal through Heroic Utgarde Keep, for example.

  2. Ahh, the classic case of the entitled level 80. I think your guild’s policy is a good one - if folks can’t pull their own weight, and put the needs of the team ahead of their own maybe they’re better off somewhere else. After all, Heroics are there for easy loot drops. Raids are there for content.

    I’m a guild/raid leader and I all I can say is “amen!”

Nothing irritates me more than people who want to be carried through raids. If someone has to switch roles to fill guild needs, I don’t mind carrying them as long as they at least did the research to make sure they’re specced/gemmed/glyphed/enchanted correctly but to just show up expecting to be handed loot over people who actually DID the work? It’s time to /join GuildRecruitment again lol.

I completely agree with you. I did the same with my Blood Elf Holy Priest. I looked myself up on Be.Imba when I hit 70 (a week before WOTLK came out) I and my buddies ran Northrend heroics many, many times. We all got the gear we needed and were Naxx ready.

The sad thing is there were many within our guild that wanted to be carried . A nice guild, but I moved onto another guild that was casual but did their homework too. I got into a bit of raiding with them, and had a blast.

Currently my priest is taking a break as I level up a Warlock and another priest, Alliance side.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy helping others. I’m like that in real life, and it carries over into the virtual world too. I will go out of my way to help guildmates, buddies, and sometimes people I just met but… well at times you have to make an effort too.
